Klipsch ProMedia Ultra 5.1 Speaker System

Strengths: Awesome bass, deep full sound from the dual 8 inch subwoofers. 5 satellite speakers fully immerse you in sound. If you want the absolute best computer speaker system out, then get this one.

Weakness: Sub is quite large, no more putting this under your desk. Had to put it off to the side of the desk. But hey, what do you expect from a dual 8 inch sub.

I have previously owned computer systems from Altec Lansing, Labtec, and even the Klipsch Promedia 4.1 system. Upgrading from the ProMedia 4.1 I expected to notice some improvement in sound, but I didn't expect this. The Promedia Ultra 5.1 system is a significant jump up from the Promedia 4.1, this system rattles my windows at 3/4 volume. The bass it produces is noticeably deeper and fuller than the dual 6.25 inch subs in the Promedia 4.1 system. All in all this system is awesome, and if you are in the market for a new speaker system and can afford this one, GET IT!

Klipsch ProMedia Ultra 5.1 Speaker System

Strengths: The strength would have to be the overall bass compared to Klipsch's 5.1 .. the ultra just blew it away

Weakness: not ditital, but for a little extra money you can get the Klipsch equilizer from there website or where ever it is the cheapest.

i just simply love it and i recommend it to anyone that loves music, loud of course, and with quality, i told some friends about me getting it. they what the hell is the big deal about getting new speakers until they came over and seen them ... they all thought it was badass and bought them the next day!

Klipsch ProMedia Ultra 5.1 Speaker System

Strengths: full bodied lifelike sound Plenty of power for the most demanding movies Sound better than my home speakers

Weakness: Would be nice if they would intergrate digital processing like the GMX system. Generic Speaker wire.

Bought the ultras to replace my 400 v.1 that I've had since 2000. Good move if I say so myself! The enhancements are quite stunning. Now to figure out how to intergrate the 400s so I can have 7.1! I do wish that since Klipsch seems to no longer have their dolby digital box they could have intergrated it into the ultras like they did with the GMX gamer speakers. (Maybe that's the next generation??) I thought about them but not enough power for me. I also think they skimped on the speaker cable. Maybe not Monster Cable but put some pins on the end instead of cheap tinned speaker wire.

Klipsch ProMedia Ultra 5.1 Speaker System

Strengths: Solid crisp sound without any crackling or hissing.

Weakness: No built in digital decoding! Mounting with speaker stands the speakers do not have tradition rear screw for speakers like regular HTS.

I upgraded from a aging creative labs 5.1 system. The Klipsch is awsome in every respect except for the following:

The only thing i did not like was no built dolby digital decoding. I have the Real Magic Xcard and will have to purchase the audigy ZS Platinum Pro. This has the external decoder box and will accomodate my DVD movies.

Rear speaker stands could not hold the speakers properly. Had to use zip ties to strap them down. Whish they had rear screws on the back of the speakers like regular HTS.

Small dorm room enviorment.

Klipsch ProMedia Ultra 5.1 Speaker System

Strengths: Powerful bass, great clarity in the mids and highs, crisp, clear treble, excellent customer service

Weakness: None that I can think of!

This is simply the best multimedia speaker system that you can buy for your computer. I have this hooked upto my HTPC so that I can watch TV, DVDs, play games and listen to music. The line-in and head-phone out feature on the remote module comes in very handy as well. The subwoofer is the star of the system - sending out earth shaking bass even at reasonable room-comfort volumes. Klipsch provides excellent customer service and I can personally vouch that the stand behind their product. HIGHLY recommended.

I would not recommend you buy this product

Strengths: Name recognition

Weakness: Amp Design flaw and unacceptable business practice of not admitting it.

I purchased this product from my favorite on-line vendor who got it to me in a very quick fashion as usual. I unpacked everything and man it was great... for 15 minutes and then it stopped working. Got on their website to see if there was a way to reset the system or something, that’s when I found the forum with hundreds of people with the same problem, bad amp. I called the on-line vendor who returned it no problem. He also informed me that they have had hundreds returned to them in the last few months. I’m still wondering why in the heck are they are still selling it.

Klipsch ProMedia Ultra 5.1 Speaker System

Strengths: Awesome sheer power, crisp all-around sound, the best control pod for a computer system, and an even better sub

Weakness: A bit pricy, somewhat large for crampt spaces, no wireless remote, lack of connectivity (not for use with XBox/PS2/DVD player w/o an external decoder)

This speaker system is probably the best when it comes to pure sound quality. The Creative Gigaworks beats it in raw power/loudness, and the Z680 beats it in connectivity, but when it comes to sound quality, the Ultra blows everything else out of the water. The sats of the ultra combined with the dual 8" subs make this system comparable to a monitor system, not computer speakers. The Promedia Ultra system is extemely clear, and can hit both highs and lows with ease.

Klipsch ProMedia Ultra 5.1 Speaker System

Strengths: Beautiful sound with no hissing

Perfection is probably the best word for these babies. After suffering through noticeable hissing with some Logitech z-680s (and terrible customer support), I sent those back and picked up a set of these Promedias. No hissing, just clear, crisp sound without exaggerated bass. Spend the little bit extra and get the best, you won't regret it.

Klipsch ProMedia Ultra 5.1 Speaker System

Strengths: Incredible bass down to 25hz that is capable of literally shaking nearby furniture. Great clarity and very convincing surround sound. Control pod looks good and is very functional to boot!

Weakness: Control pod kind of light and thus gives off an air of chinciness. No digital output. No THX certification. Doesn't walk my dog.

After the untimely death of my Logitech Z-680's, I bought these speakers and have been nothing but impressed with them. The overall quality and style of the system is much better than the Z-680's which lacked a professional look and instead looked kind of like something for console systems only.

Aside from sheer looks and sturdiness, the speakers sound right out of the box. I'm a pretty big audiophile and thus not easily impressed by most modern PC speaker systems, but these are great.

My only real gripe with the system is it's lack of expandability in regards to hooking it up to things other than PC's. Also, the system isn't digital or THX certified. However, when you take into consideration that Creative owns 60% of the THX stock and is slapping the name all over any speakers they put out, the THX logo seems rather hollow.

To remedy the no-digital problem, I plan on buying a DD-5.1 digital decoder/preamp from the Klipsch website. I hear this is also a pretty nice device.

In summary, buy this system if you are looking for a enthusiast-level PC audio system without wanting to really break the bank. If you want cookie-cutter 'THX certified' 6.1 or 7.1 systems, look elsewhere.

Klipsch ProMedia Ultra 5.1 Speaker System

Strengths: Incredible Sound Rich & Deep Bass amazing satellites

Weakness: absolutely none

I also own the original Promedia 5.1. While the original is amazing, Klipsch found a way to make it even better with a bigger and better sub, and increased efficiency out of the sattelites. Klipsch is now my standard for music movies, and games.

Klipsch ProMedia Ultra 5.1 Speaker System

Strengths: Sound, what I bought them for!

Weakness: None but I see others felt maybe digital processing or the lack of was a weakness. If I had wanted that I would have bought the Logitech.

My v.200's died after five years of hard use (on 24/7) and needed an excuse to buy the new ones. I'm having the old ones repaired by Klipsch and will hand them over to my wife.

BTW, $60.00 for any repair by Klipsch on the old ones, you pay shipping one way and they pay the return shipping. It cost me $22.00 for shipping so for $82.00 their like new and any new ones would have been that much.

Update:

Klipsch informed me that the old v2-400's could not be repaired because of a shortage of parts but rather than send back the broken sub, control speaker and money they updated/upgraded mine to a complete set, the Ultra 5.1 at no costs to me. After reading thru some of the other top end speaker manufactures boards I see this is far from the norm and the end user is let holding the bag. The others may offer a two year or better warranty but I see no one standing behind there's after five years use.

Klipsch ProMedia Ultra 5.1 Speaker System

Strengths: Great Speakers

Weakness: None observed yet

So of course the question is begged: What do $350 computer speakers sound like? Well, if you don't like thundering base and THX quality surround sound that immerses you in whatever movie or game you are playing, then this is not the system for you.
But if you want Dynamic range and a clarity you thought was never possible from a home PC than you should not hesitate to get this system. I drooled over this system for 2 years when I heard it in the store, and purchased several cheaper brands of computer speakers that just did not live up to my expectations. Don't waste your money on lesser systems and get this system, it is unbelievable, to rattles the walls, while still maintaining a clear sound that will keep up with whatever is thrown at it.
I cant wait to get Half Life 2 in and really see what these babies can do.

A great speaker system for the PC.

Strengths: Powerful subwoofer hits incredible lows and the enter speaker adds that little extra touch. Control pod is nice Very professional presentation all around

Weakness: Subwoofer is huge and heavy. Lacks digital inputs (maybe a problem for some but not for me).

I bought these speakers from Newegg.com back in February and I glad I did. Despite the positive press Logitech's Z-5500s have received Klipsch's offering is still the best you can buy. The sats are well-built and include tweeters; the subwoofer is, in a word, fantastic.

I paired this set up with a Soundblaster Audigy 2ZS Platinum and have been in aural heaven ever since.

Klipsch ProMedia Ultra 5.1 Speaker System

Strengths: Rich sound & deep satellites. No hissing. Control pad is easy to use.

Weakness: Subwoofer takes up alot of space. Appears to only hook up to PCs. No wireless remote.

I had Bose PC speakers prior to purchasing Klipsch ProMedia Ultra 5.1 and I would never go back. When setting up the systems have extreme patience. I got it on a weeknight and installed it that night. Which resulted some panic due to the fact that it took longer to set up to due unfamiliarity. Also the instructions are kind of skimpy.

Klipsch ProMedia Ultra 5.1 Speaker System

Strengths: Great sound, good Bass, Great range

Weakness: Minor Complaint, the cable for connecting to the sound card should we one cable, with 3 plugs to cut down on the mess of 3 seperate cables.

I use these speakers with my Media PC based on a ATI All-In-Wonder 9800 Pro and Creative Labs Audigy 2 ZS.

While I have complaints about both of these other two products which form the foundation of my media center, the Klipsh ProMedia 5.1 Ultra is nothing but great. These tied to the creative card is very comprable to my Sony 555ES high end decoder/receiver, Sony 805 DVD jukebox, and Yamaha satelite system with subwoofer. That's saying something since these are categorized as computer speakers and I got them for under $375 shipped.

The bass response is excellent and the mid and upper range is crisp. The sound stage in general is very expansive and really shows off the great DTS and Dolby Digital capabilites of the sound card when watching movies. The sound is also excellent for listening to music. It has plenty of power @ 500 watts to go beyond my sound level requirements.

I would buy these if setting up another system.

It would be ideal if these did have a optical input as well as the digital input. To their credit, I only feel that way because creative dropped the ball and didn't include an optical input for an XBox or other device unless you want to shell out an extra $100 and plug cables into the front of your computer. I'm sure this sounds like a rant, and it is, but it's valid considering most people that want to use their computer as the center piece in a home theater system don't want permanent cables running to the front of their computer.

Klipsch ProMedia Ultra 5.1 Speaker System

Strengths: Crisp, clear quality sound, deep earth-shaking bass

Weakness: None so far in terms of sound. Subwoofer is big and heavy though!

I just got these speaker system as a replacement for Klipsch's 5.1 THX versions. Those blew their built-in amp after less than a week of casual use. Klipsch's excellent customer service sent me a prepaid shipping label for my RMA request on those, and upgraded me to the Ultra models as replacement without my even having to ask them!

Enough gushing about Klipsch great customer service and willingness to stand behind their product. On to reviewing the actual sound quality. I thought the THX versions were good, but the Ultras are even better! The most noticeable difference is the much deeper bass and much lower distortion at very high volumes. When they say the bass on this is earth-shaking, they really do mean it is earth-shaking. Positional audio in games works very nice as well. I have it paired up with Creative's Audigy 2 ZS and it is a perfect combo.

Bottom line - 10 stars for Klipsch customer service, and five stars for the Ultras

I Love Them!

Strengths: Awesome sound. I like that there's no plug on the wire, so you can place or hang them anywhere with any length speaker wire.

Weakness: don't know any yet

I bought my first set from a vendor on pricegrabber and had prob. with amp feedback. I returned them, got my money back with no problem.
Then I bought a new set (absolutely not refurbished) and no probs. Like I said, awesome sound. I have them on one of my puters I use mostly for playing music.
