TopI found this to be a pretty good comic book movie. The visual effects are good and theres a lot of action scenes.

TopI'm biased, in the way that I'm an X-Man fan. The movie and any upcoming movie that is comic-based, which I have come to follow, will always be put up on a higher pedestal of judgment. In this case, X-Men, the first of many and I hope many many more sequels, is adequate for a first movie. It sets up characters, storylines, and themes. There is action, romance, and some sci-fi goodies along with the special effects. For fans, watch it on the big screen & buy the DVD; for people who are indifferent, watch it at home somehow, maybe TBS will have it in a year.

TopForget the comics completely. This movie is good no matter what knowledge or lackof you have with regard to the comics. Fast paced, funny, well acted. This movie does an excellent job in most every category. Nice to see the comic world with a well done effort put on the big screen. Too bad the makers of The Hulk overthought and overwrote that one.

Topthis movie was a really good introduction for the characters...it was basically for the people who havent read or seen any xmen comics or cartoons...it was really well made..the only problem i thot was cyclops was given too small a role...but the effects were good..n wolverine was totally awesome..magneto n mystique were cool too..the ending was just amazingggg

TopWell, you gotta expect that the movie really isn't going to be the exact depiction of the book/comic, in any circumstance, before going to see this. As a movie, it served as just one big introduction of the cast, with little else really. I liked the little cheesy one-liners and interactions between Wolverine and Cyclops--that was probably the best part of the movie. The effects were alright, especially for Mystique--she literally had that stuff painted on her, that had to be a pain! Well, don't expect too much from this movie, it's just fun to watch. (Oh, and don't worry, most people agree that the second movie is better than the first.)

TopLoved it. Even though I heard the second movie was greater. Actually, I was a little disappointed in finding out that Tyler Mane wasn't going to play Sabretooth in the second film. Hopefully Bryan Singer will bring him back in the third film. And I thought Halle Berry was an excellent choice in the part of Storm.

TopVery well done. I grew up watching and reading X-men. So I was very satisfied with how this was done. The cast was perfect with one or two exceptions. I was pleased that they decided to keep Magneto's origin. Since that is his main reason for despising mankind. But like all comic book movies it wasn't exactly like the comic. But considering that fictional characters have been turned into flesh abd blood actors it is easy to forgive these faults. I expect the same satisfaction from the sequel.

TopMost of the time, going from a comic book to film is a 50/50. It's either going to be very good or very bad. I thought X-Men was very good. It had a decent story and the effects were very good. It does lose something watching it on t.v. See it in a theatre if you can.

TopI was actuately going to give this movie a 1 but felt generous today. I got my hopes up once I saw the adverts for this movie.....but the classical american way of making crap movies look good fooled me again. With stupid lines such as when Storm says 'Do you know what happens when a frog gets hit by lightning?.....the same thing that happens to everything else'.....what kind of a line is that? This must be one of the biggest movie losers of all century. The only highlight of this movie was seeing hugh jackman.

TopOne of the best movies of all time. The cast: Great. The actress playing "Dr.Jean Grey" is very convincing. She's a very pretty woman, one like a lot of women would like to be. The girl playing "Rogue" was impressive. Haven't seen her in many films, but in this one, she was particularly good. "Cyclops" (played by James Marsden) is also VERY impressive. Haven't seen him act so well in all the other movies he's been in. Last I will be mentioning (but certaintly not least), is Hugh Jackman. Wow. I was stunned when I saw him act. I was in heaven watching him. Can life get any better than this? I don't think so. He's so amazingly talented and handsome, that I can't put it into words. I seriously love everything about him. I love his smile, his eyes, his hair, his body, even his nose! The man is highly underrated and should receive lots more attention. I am looking forward to seeing ANY other movies he ever decides to do. Heck, I saw "Someone Like You" the other day. He's wonderful. Everything he's built for is wonderful. This man is so close to being perfect, it scares me. I think I've said enough about him. :o) To sum up, the movie was great. Excelent special effects.

TopAs a kid, I collected comic books and was a big fan of the X-Men, so I really looked forward to seeing the movie. But my expectations were low, because movies have traditionally done a poor job with comic book characters. As it turns out, “X-Men” isn’t too bad at all. People complain that they didn’t include all the characters (no Nightcrawler, Colossus, Banshee, etc.), but there’s no way they could have introduced that many characters in an hour and half and still have had room for a plot. As it is, you hardly got to know Storm or Cyclops at all. And of course purists are going to find fault with the fact that small details of the comic aren’t respected (Rogue is too young, Wolverine is too tall, etc.), but give me a break – that stuff is far too minor to matter. Overall, the movie works. The special effects are great, the story is interesting enough for comic book fans but basic enough for people who are new to the X-Men, the acting is decent, and there are some good fight scenes. Four stars.

TopComing from along time reader of the X-men comics, let me say that this film seriously exceeded all expectations. Wolverine was perfect, with one-liners true to his comic book counterpart, although i think that ? would have been slightly better considering that Logan is meant to look slightly older than 30. Not even his healing powers could make him look that young. The weakest link [if there was one] has to be Rogue. Too much of her personality was melded with Jubilees', meaning that her true past from the comic books cant be explored. Also i didnt like the way that original members of the X-men were made to be teenagers. I mean anyone currently up to date with the comics, will agree that ice man is one of the most interesting characters with the expansion of his new powers. and yet here he is all spotty and hormonaly charged hitting on Rogue who is obviously just waiting for Gambit to get a call up. I know that i need to get a life, but i dont care! i'm going to go home and watch the film again on DVD.

TopI really enjoyed the movie. Being a die hard xmen comic/book/cartoon fan I could appreciate the acting in prof-X and Wolvie.I thought that even though this is the first of many sequels the Xmen seemed a little too weak and teenagerish. The fight scenes were good the first time but need more depth, especially with storm. I mean Halle didnt really move, run, jump, or anything like that and she is supposed to fly. The was too much shown in the prep-school mansion area and not enough in the lower"cool x-men" area. The danger room could have been shown..(or is that saved for the sequel with aypocolipse and the Shi'ar.) For the most part the acting was good. The COSTUMES WERE TERRIBLE!! I understand that it would be impossible to bring the comic book costumes, but they could have been a little similar at least. I did not like the "boyfriend" of rouge or soon to be iceman, he was too not like iceman.Scott Summers was not tough enough and didnt have any leadership. The movie(s) need to evolve into an expanding story possibly the next installment could have to do with the predecessor of senator Kelly (since he was killed) and the anti-mutant movement and the Sentinels. Then you could bring in the Ms Marvel/Shi'ar/aypocolipse story in the third. I hope we get to see more of a conflict with wolverine and sabertooth(the dog tag thing was a cool hint). Beast and Gambit need to be a part of the next movies. Rouge could grow up a little and take Jubilee under her wing for a small sub-plot ..or not cause rouge has already filled the roll of the little girl finding herself. Thanks for reading this long pile of babble and in a final note I would like to....no I would beg the team of producers of the next movies to not change any cast members or the director. nothing ruins a movie franchise more than different "feels" to movies that could expand and develope more character and expression...The Batman movies started out spectatular then new actors/directors.....it got a new feel and just sank.....Thanks again for reading :o)

TopFirst of all, let me start by stating that I have followed the Marvel Comic's X-Men for quite awhile. I think the movie was excellent. All though some of the characters could have been introduced and expounded on... (such as Storm)... the over all casting was terrific! I would definitely recommend this movie to anyone with any interests in a good flic!! I am eagerly awaiting a sequel!!

TopI rented this DVD this past weekend and I was expecting nothing. Absolutely nothing. I didn't think it was going to be good but was hoping it would be somewhat entertaining. Well, the DVD was really cool. The menu was awesome. The movie had good special effects and costumes. As far as following X Men even though I have never even seen a comic book, I followed it fine. It was not as bad as I thought but it still had some strong elements of cheese which prevent it from getting higher than a 3.

TopI could only give this movie one star because of the entertainment. As a movie itself it was one of the worst movies i have ever seen i seriously could not even sit through it. There were many actors and actresses that took part in this movie but how good could they act if they had a screenplay that was pathetic. Don't get me wrong I love comics and love marvel heroes but this was the worst portrayl of the marvel heroes ever. Rogue and sabertooth saved the movie but where the heck is Gambit?

TopI have been an X-Men fan for years and when I had scene the trailers for this movie I was given a low expectation, however, when I saw the movie it proved me wrong. This tale touches the viewer in a rare way, much like the comic. Here you are watching this movie which is done, for the most part, in a comic book 'storyboardesque' format, and finding that it moves you more than movies that try to be moving. This was a good movie for couples to go see. It represents the agression that men have and shows the balance for love that some viscious men possess, much like myself. Wolverine is the chief character for this. He is brutal and trusts no one, but he is in love with Dr. Jean Grey and feels a fatherly love for Rogue, just like the comic. Wolverine is the impossibility, but the necessary element in the X-Men. As for the type casting I thought it was very well done. Hugh Jackman took the character and personality of Wolverine out of the 'old school' comics and threw it on the screen. I personally did not like Wolverine's costume, and hair, design. He looked more like a fuzzy Elvis crossed with the late Freddy Prince. Famke Jensen brings her tough sensuality to the film, and she proves more and more how much of a genuine actress she is. Halle Berry was perfect, but again the costume and hair design needed more imaginative workup, in my opinion. As for the X-Men character cast I would have preferred to do without Toad and have Night Crawler there in replacement. If they use Gambit in number two I'm going to be sick. I suggest that everyone see this movie, X-Men fans and non-fans alike.

TopMany Stan Lee fans will be disappointed with this uninspired flop. Problem 1- X-Men traditionalists won't like the leather uniforms. Problem 2- Anna Paquin is a stick who's supposed to play the voluptuous Rogue. Problem 3- Halle Berry, while fine, does not do Storm justice.

TopAs a fan of x-men for 15 years I know a lot of the original story lines and find that the movie is lacking. They changed alot of stuff, like Rouge coming to the professor as a teen. But being a new generation and a new spin on the show I still loved it. I thought Hugh did a good job as Wolverine, and I liked the desention between him and Cyclops. But they didn't show enough of the crap between him and Jean. I hope next time they show Beast and Gambit.

TopI went in there not expecting much - how can real life compare to the fantastical world of comics. The movie was nice for an introduction to the world of xmen but I thought they could have had a worse villian than Magneto - like Apocolypse. Also Rogue is my fav character because of all her attitude, unfortunately in the movie she is just a little girl

TopI enjoyed the movie very much! It was very exciting. I loved Hugh Jackman's potrayal of Logan/Wolverine. Wolverine had never been my favorite X-men (Gambit has always been my X-Man, I was a bit disappointed to hear his character would not be portrayed in the movie). Don't get me wrong I like all the X-Men. But now thanks to Mr.Jackman, his portrayal has gave Wolverine such sex appeal, that if I were Jean Grey I could not just set him aside. Any way the movie was fantastic!See it if you haven't! (sorry Gambit)

TopThis movie is another example of a classic comic book excellently transformed into a motion picture blockbuster. Featuring classic characters from the comic, it is another good example of a comic cleanly and solidly transformed into a great motion picture. Though there are some clear disimilarities(Wolverine is much taller than his comic book character, and Rogue is clearly younger than she is as portrayed in the comic) and many changes have been clearly seen in the movie, it is still consistently a great movie, showing smooth transition from comic book to movie sequence.

Topto take a comic and put it in onto the big screen a lot of creative licence must be taken otherwise you get a dodgy film. you can't make a believable, serious film with people running around in bright yellow spandex. the costumes were well done, the actors well picked. you've heard all the good stuff already so... 'nuff said.

TopExcept for the costumes, I could not have been more pleasantly suprised at the true x-men feel to this movie. An unknown actor like Hugh Jackman did Wolverine about as good as you can do. TopAlthough I consider myself a high standards movie watcher, I had to love them for this movie for it brought back so many childhood memories. The movie stayed pretty true to the comic (except Rogue). It had great effects and cool costumes. The only thing the movie lacked was the 45 minutes they cut out of it which supposedly was character development.

Toppersonally the movie was good. but there was a few areas that were weak. being a big fan of the comic book and the cartoon i think they could of done a better job on doing some of the castng. i mean come on if u look at the cartoon and read the comic u'll see that storm is tough, she even beat scott with out her powers. the only thing shes afraid of is inclosed areas. and in the movie sabertooth. you do the thinking. then the part on how toad beat her like that. now if ur second in comand aren't u suppost to be strong and tough or is that my imagination. gee um aint she suppose to fly. i know why rogue didn't she hasn.t found out her fully power yet. i mean rogue hasn't taken ms. marvel's powers yet. WOLVERINE AND PROF.X was GREAT!magneto was good but please he needs to be in shape. so all in all the movie again was ok. WORK ON STORM HALLE!!! or geat some one else to play storm.but if u please PUT THEM BACK IN THEIR ORIGINAL COSTUMES.

TopYou know, my friends say I judge movies way too harshly. However, I don't think so. X-Men was a disappointment. I must admit that I did something I don't usually do; I fell into the hype surrounding the movie. That was my first mistake. My second mistake was actually arriving at the theatre and actually sitting down in a seat to watch the movie. The casting was great, but the script was horrible. This is to kone7059om: if the film is not easy to make, then they shouldn't make the movie until they have worked harder on the movie and are sure they will have a quality product. You can't show loyalty by supporting them in whatever they do because everything they do is not always good. Anyway, with casting that superb, it is hard to understand how the movie turned out so horrible. The intro was pretty good, but as the movie progressed, it got more and more confusing. The transitions left me feeling puzzled and absolutely lost. Things happened in certain scenes that had no apparent reasoning behind them. I just sat there saying WHY to a lot of things that happened in the movie. It is true that the action scenes were pretty good, but they also had puzzling reasoning behind them. Halle Berry worked her part as Storm very well. She is THE finest woman on earth. The ending of this movie was the most puzzling part. It just ended; I was waiting for another action scene or some more talking or something, but it just ended leaving me pissed and puzzled. It's like they just threw some random scenes together and called it a movie. It wasn't that bad, but it was pretty bad. I wouldn't recommend it to anyone who hasn't seen it.

TopX-Men was disappointing. The story was alright and the character development was a bit lacking. There was just too many characters to build a strong story. Focus should've been on just a few of the mutants. A whole movie of Wolverine would've been better.
